Here are a few of the 200 pictures taken on Tuesday January 11, 2005's adventurous trip to Granite Island to repair the power for the webcams. The Coast Guard has closed up shop for the winter and all other boats are high and dry. A good reason for concern as the 30 foot Zodiac broke through the ice out of the harbor and then five miles off shore both engines died. Switching tanks solved the problem. Cramp-ons assisted our ability to climb the sheer ice covered rock to the lighthouse as the sharp spikes kept us from sliding backward into the icy Lake Superior water.

The day was beautiful and the sun peaked out in the afternoon highlighting our shots of nature's ice sculptures.
